The Automobile

The automobile – in general; specifically, a 1937 Dodge coupe just like the beauty in the picture. It was my first car and gave me FREEDOM. We bought in 1950 with the last of the money I’d saved selling butter and eggs on Saturday mornings sat the county courthouse during the war. Food rationing made those items hard to get, so I had customers for everything we could produce.

The first new models built after the war came out in 1949. We bought this beauty from a friend who had a Chrysler dealership, and whose wife had been driving it since it was new. We paid $500 for it. My savings were a bit short, so Pop kicked in about $100.
